Artificial Archipelago: The World Islands of Dubai
Dubai’s property developers have consistently pushed the boundaries of creativity with each new endeavor. While other countries are constructing airport islands along their coastlines, Dubai is taking it a step further by crafting entire new worlds. The ambitious project of creating the Palm Jumeirah appears to have been a mere warm-up for the colossal undertaking known as “The World” Islands, which is still in progress.
Viewed from above, the islands are designed to resemble a world map. Once completed, “The World” will span an area of approximately 3.7 by 5.6 miles, comprised of seven clusters of islands, totaling nearly 260 islands collectively. Each cluster will symbolize one of the seven continents, with the individual islands ranging in size from 150,000 to 450,000 square feet each.
